• Bone: The Complete Cartoon Epic in One Volume, by Jeff Smith. When I was in middle school, some friends of the family brought a few issues of the comics over, and I absolutely adored them. Didn’t get very far into the story, but I’m trying to remedy that now by reading the entire (giant, gargantuan) graphic novel.
• The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. I’ve heard it’s amazing from so many different people that I simply had to see for myself if it lives up to the hype. So far, so good, but then again, I’m only on the third chapter… Too early to make a decision, I think.
• An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness, by Kay Redfield Jamison. Jamison is a professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, which isn’t far from where I live, so this book is an item of local interest for me. Additionally, I’ve always had an interest in psychology and psychiatry. This book has been on my “to-read” list for years, and I’m finally getting around to it. Sort of.

I don’t normally read this many books at once, so it’s kind of strange for me. But I like being able to read whatever fits my mood at the time. Jonesing for a light-hearted read? Try Bone. Feeling like something dark and dystopian? The Hunger Games. Want a thoughtful personal memoir? An Unquiet Mind. I think I’d have more trouble switching from book to book if they were all similar, actually.

If you aren’t familiar with Goodreads, you should be, particularly if you like to read: it’s a social network (hey, quit with the groans!) that allows you to keep track of books you’re reading, have read, or want to read. Once you’ve added a book to one of those three lists, you can then assign “shelves,” or categories. A few of mine are “humor,” “fiction,” “book club,” and “books I should have read sooner.” You can write reviews and assign a rating of one to five stars to the books. I think the site is pretty keen.
