Deck the halls with balls of yarn
So last time I posted, I told you guys about indie craft shopping. Now I’ve got some links to gift ideas for the DIYers out there — as well as links to the appropriate tutorial, so you can learn a new craft!
Knit scarf and matching thumbless “wristers” — the amazing thing about this pattern is that it dates from World War I. It was scanned from a pullout pattern in “Modern Priscilla Needlework” magazine in 1917. How awesome is that? (Knitting tutorial)
Crocheted Christmas card ornaments — obviously this will work for any holiday card, it doesn’t have to be Christmas. I’ve actually made these before and they are really quick and easy to make, and they look nice. (Crochet tutorial)
Cross stitched candy cane bookmark — just as sweet as the real thing but won’t rot your teeth out. The link is to just a chart, though, so if you’re new to cross stitching check out the tutorial to learn how to read the graph. (Cross stitch tutorial)
Sewn rice heat therapy bag — also has instructions for an eye pillow and a smaller version of the bag. This would probably make a neat gift for anyone you know who could use some relaxation…or you could always just make one for yourself. (Hand sewing tutorial)
Stab-stitched handmade book — this is a little more advanced but would be great for making a journal (or photo album, or recipe book, or sketchbook…).
CD Envelope from old music books — a nice way to present a mixed CD. You could also use scrapbooking paper or magazine pages or even part of a map.
Spice vials — test tubes filled with spices make a cooler-looking spice rack. That blogger also printed out recipes that use those spices, which is a pretty neat idea too.
And last, but not least:
Simple, elegant gift tags — an easy way to top off a present.
That’s it for now–happy crafting!
