Your holiday shopping, made easy
Following my last post’s theme, here’s where I make life easy for you: a list of places where you can buy handmade for the holidays! You’re welcome, by the way.
Etsy is an online marketplace with an almost overwhelming amount of stuff for sale. More than 100,000 Etsy sellers have signed up and sold their wares since June 2005. If you can dream it, and if someone can make it, it’s here.
Buy Olympia is also a great place to peruse lots of handmade goodies from all over (not just Olympia, Washington, where the site’s home base is). The site features a number of handy categories that will help make your shopping easier, including a “Gifts Under $10″ category for those of you who may be short on cash but big on one-of-a-kind presents.
Indie Friendly is a portal with more than a thousand links to indie websites where you can buy DIY. I haven’t used this site extensively, but it seems like a great place to get started.
Crafter by Night has a long list of individual artistans and alternacrafters to check out, along with a number of links to gift guides.
And Fresh Crafts has a similar directory. Here you can find a lot of links with little write-ups and recommendations based on the author’s experience.
Lastly, if you’re so squished for time you can’t even browse these directories (in which case, you have my sympathies), sign up for the Handmade Holiday Alert. This email newsletter highlights individual handmade products and delivers the links right into your inbox.
If you know of a great resource for buying DIY, leave me a comment and I’ll add it!
[…] the Link Love side of things - my Index of Independent Designers was recently mentioned on the Charm City DIY site. I also just figured out (although I think this was a while ago - duh!) I’m listed on […]
